Guitar Hero World Tour Red Drum Issue
Me and my friend Pat waited until 12:14am for the midnight release of Guitar Hero: World Tour for the Xbox 360. There were only two (2) Xbox 360 band sets available, and we were able to get one!! After speeding home, we set up the drums and were ready to play.
Immediately, Pat noticed that the red drum on the set was not responsive. If it did respond at all, it was delayed. At first I thought he just didn’t have any rythm, then it was my turn on the drums. I was experiencing the same problems! Well, it turns out that there really is a defect with the drums, and we are not the only ones who are experiencing the problem.
So if you bought the game, or are planning on buying, SAVE THE RECIEPT!!! If you’re having any other problems you can visit Activision customer support. Thanks for reading.

Through hours of research, there are many different issues that I’ve heard of. My specific issue is that my red and blue pads respond fine in the middle, but if you hit it anywhere on the outside it doesn’t typically respond. The green and the symbols all work fine though. My belief is that it has to do with sensitivity problems in the specific pads. It makes sense since the green one works flawlessly and the other two are limited. If you don’t want to send it in, here are some potential fixes that I’ve come across:
- Put fresh batteries into the set. Some believe Activision shipped out bad batteries. (although this did not work for me)
- Try unplugging everything and then replugging it back in.
- It is rumored that software is coming out that will allow you to change the sensitivity of each specific pad/symbol. (this is what I’m waiting for before I try to take it back)
If the latter rumor is true then this should be a simple fix for me. But it’s still baffling to me that Activision would ship these things out before they were even fully functional. I’m praying that this will be the fix because I don’t want to have to deal with returning multiple sets until I find one that works.

UPDATE:
I have read a few new forum posts at various websites, and people are now saying that they dont think 2 AA batteries are enough to power all of the symbols of the drum set. This actually makes a lot of sense, and people that say they use rechargeable batteries that are fully charged are claiming they don’t have a problem. I’m thinking that if there is a way to rig more power into it then that would charge all of the buttons. This might run the risk of short circuiting your drum set though, and I’m definitely not one that is going to try that. I’ll post more when I find new information.

I tried this… I resoldered the wires to the correct connection and still couldn’t get it working. Immediately after fixing it, i was able to play about 2 songs before it died on me again. ugh.
